BeWell Cancer Story: Brady Buck

“Cancer re-shifted my perspective on everything: life, family, relationships, and my mindset.”

What has cancer taught you?

Cancer reshifted my perspective on everything: life, family, relationships, and my mindset. The diagnosis, while scary every week, has, in a lot of ways, been a big springboard for me to become a better person, husband, father, and Christian. It's given me a new lens to view life through that makes me more appreciative of the day-to-day minutiae.

What was the most supportive during treatment? Have you made any lifestyle changes?

It's been a myriad of protocols and lifestyle changes that have been most supportive. Resetting my diet and nutrition was probably the most beneficial change I've made in the last two years, in tandem with placing a big emphasis on weekly exercise. Sugar and carb intake is very minimal for me now. I've lost 35 pounds of weight that I should've never been carrying. I've intentionally carved out many hours of each week to be focused on exercise and wellness modalities. I'm physically the strongest I've been since my high school years. From a psychological standpoint, exercise gives me a distraction each day, a release, and a greater sense of purpose and accomplishment, which helps boost my self-confidence. Also, I've found the post-workout sauna sessions to be a relaxing and reviving routine that helps reset myself mentally and gives me time to focus on breathing work. These routines compound and I've noticed much deeper and better sleeping since changing my diet and exercise habits. Lastly, every evening, I strive to spend time playing with my boys, running, chasing, and wrestling to end the day on a fun note.
