Caroline Myss on Balancing Your Energy Centers

“Energy is power.”

In this episode of The Goop Podcast, Gwyneth Paltrow sits down with Caroline Myss to discuss the mind — body — spirit connection and how our energy centers can effect our physical well being.

When it comes to our health, we often only think of the physical well being of our body but tend to forget to take our emotional, mental and spiritual health into consideration. Our bodies, our environment, absolutely everything, is made up of energy and energy has great power, including that over our health.

There is believed to be seven chakras of the human body that Caroline discusses. Chakras are believed to be different energy centers of the body, all associated with different physical, mental, emotional states. When the chakras are balanced, it allows energy to freely flow throughout your body and allows your body and health to be more in more optimal condition. When these energy centers are blocked, energy can no longer freely flow which can result in physical, mental or emotional symptoms.

An example discussed in the podcast episode involved a woman with chronic bladder infection problems that the “standard of care” treatment was not resolving or improving. Caroline goes on to explain that the bladder can be associated with ongoing relationship issues, repeatedly handling problems without resolution, worrying, engaging in anything not properly serving you, unresolved anguish, etc. She further explains that when anyone is having an issue, we must step completely out of the issue itself and look at someone’s lifestyle as a whole and see where things are off balance. This includes looking at the physical, mental and emotional parts of a person’s lifestyle. If we can begin to identify imbalances, we can begin to identify root causes of our issues.

Caroline uses a great analogy where she explains that our bodies are like a ship. A ship will always get back to balance but unless we find the causes of why the ship is off balance, it’s going to remain off balance.

Another powerful idea shared in this podcast was that there is always a door open and an opportunity to be doing something to be healing. Caroline explains that it is much harder to live a lie, although many people do. What she means by this is that often times people are living according to ways untrue to themselves which actually takes more exhaustive energy and effort. By living this way, we are only continuing to block opportunity to heal.

When Gwyneth asked Caroline about any specific practices she does to help keep her chakras balanced, Caroline goes on to explain that she uses prayer and how she truly believes in the power of prayer. She said by actively pursuing guidance, she has seen true healing.

Lyndsay’s Takeaways:

This was a very powerful podcast episode on the mind — body — spirit connection. I have been on a continuous health journey the past few years in hopes of both resolving chronic health issues as well as continuing to reach for optimal health. I was recently explaining to a friend that I felt like I was doing so many of the “right” things to feel better but was feeling stagnant. Many of the healing aspects I have been focused on have been more associated with physical being such as being active, working out, eating a healthy diet, getting enough sleep and indulging in my favorite biohacking. Although these are all amazing points, these have not been addressing my health on a more emotional, mental or spiritual level. Aside from prayer, I was really not addressing these issues in a proper way.

At the beginning of 2025, I made myself a promise to invest more into my mental and emotional health. Over the last couple of months I have been more focused on my mind, thoughts and energy and have seen drastic improvement in my overall mood and mindset which has then allowed for improvement in the “physical” aspects of my lifestyle and health. Since the start of the year I have regularly incorporated therapy, chiropractic work (yes, this is physical but also highly associated with stored energy and tension in the body), muscle testing and emotional release therapy, journaling and more. I have also been very mindful of what relationships and information I am opening my mind and time to. Other things I hope to explore and incorporate this upcoming year to support my body more are breathwork, meditation and acupuncture. As always, furthering my relationship with God will always be at the top of my list.

I think this episode is important because whether your spiritual views are associated with a specific religion or not, everyone has the opportunity to explore and heal in a spiritual way and truly discover what that means for them. This podcast opens great conversation for exploring further ideas to heal and support our body and is a great reminder about how powerful our mind is and how greatly everything is connected within our bodies.
